List of products by brand Cupano
"It was the early seventies, when Lionel Cousin and his wife Ornella first discovered the lands of Montalcino, during a visit to their friend the painter Yoran Cazac, who at the time owned a farm with an old farmhouse perched above the bends of the Ombrone. The love at first sight was almost immediate, and the magic of the Tuscan lands immediately left its mark on Lionel and Ornella, to the point that just over twenty years later, exactly in 1996, the two bought what is now reality. of Cupano.
Known in Montalcino as “the Frenchman”, Lionel therefore leaves his past as a cinematographer to devote himself entirely to his own company.
The stage - for the more experts and connoisseurs of the denomination - is that of the west side, where the Brunellos tend to be more savory and mineral, thanks to the composition of the soils rich in sand, clays and alluvial pebbles.
On a hill with particularly draining soil, there are 34 hectares of Cupano, of which about seven are currently being used as vineyards.
The company setting was inspired by the teachings of Henri Jayer, who in some way transposed the rules he used to follow in Burgundy, actually importing his iron convictions in the lands of China, for which they start from a vineyard area contained, to continue with limited yields, prohibition of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, careful selection of grapes and indigenous yeasts. Carlo Ferrini, then, was the one who chose the sixth plant and the land where to plant the cuttings, while François Bouchet, as an expert winemaker that he was, started Cupano to biodynamics, the simplest and most effective one. Finally, it was the great Giulio Gambelli, master of Sangiovese, who started the bottling.
This was Cupano, that is, this was the birth of Cupano, which over the years has seen some of its inspiring mentors fail, but at the same time continue to live in the labels of what today are simply extraordinary wines. From Brunello di Montalcino to Brunello Riserva, passing through Rosso and Sant'Antimo "Ombrone", they are all bottles, those that refer to the name of "Cupano", in which, in addition to meeting the excellence of the Ilcinese lands, we find all the greatness of the figures who have seen them and still see them come to life today. Wonderful wines.
