What is Gin? Gin is an alcoholic beverage of Dutch origin obtained from the distillation of a fermented wheat and rye, in which a mixture of herbs and spices, called botanicals, is placed to macerate. Among these we also find juniper berries that characterize the scent and taste. Much appreciated by the English, the "recipe" of gin was imported into the United Kingdom, where the distillate has undergone an evolution in the production technique: a first distillation and aromatization with juniper berries, coriander and other aromatic herbs , such as anise and fennel seeds, lemon and orange peel, licorice root, cardamom, cumin and almonds, followed by a second distillation to give the London Dry Gin. Gin is ideal as an aperitif and as an ingredient at the base of various cocktails and long drinks.
