Frappato
Frappato is a black grape variety present throughout Sicily but essentially in the province of Syracuse and in that of Ragusa. The vine is very old and the first certain news make it date back to the eighteenth century. Its origin is not known and it may not be an autochthonous vine coming from the Iberian peninsula. There are two very similar varieties with rather elongated bunches and with very close grapes of intense red color tending to violet. This feature has a negative aspect because when the grapes are ripe the grapes are pressed against each other causing the splitting of some of them. This causes the formation of mold and a pollution of the product. Frappato mixed with Nero d'Avola contributes to the production of Cerasuolo di Vittoria D.O.C.G. wine with an alcohol content of 13 °.
