The history of the Gratiot & Cie winery begins in 1868, the year in which the winery was founded; four generations had already followed when Rémy (current owner) was born in 1976 in Coulommiers. As his father before him, he observes and learns about the vine and wine from the men of the family. The year of his graduation marks a turning point in his life with the death of his father. Rémy then takes on the family legacy with the desire to surpass himself and offer his technical knowledge for the future of the company. His goal: to produce unique Champagnes that reflect his regional terroir, the best representative of which is Pinot Meunier. Champagne Gratiot & Cie today cultivates 18 hectares of vineyards in the Aisne department, Marne valley. The family vineyard is adequately representative of the region and is made up of 84% Pinot Meunier, 13% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Noir. As the vineyard developed, it seemed indisputable to produce Pinot Meunier, a robust and expressive vine, ambassador of the brand in the world. The estate now evolves under the watchful eyes of Rémy Gratiot and his team, who cultivate the three types of vines in seven villages of the Aisne department: Saulchery, Charly-sur-Marne, Villiers-Saint-Denis, Romeny- sur-Marne, Azy-Bonneil and Essomes-sur-Marne. The 43 vine plots are constantly monitored by members of the Champagne Gratiot & Cie team.
