160 YEARS OF SUCCESSES AND A LOOK TO THE FUTURE
Serralunga d'Alba, 14 June 2018 - "If you really love me, give me that estate!" - It must have been the words that Rosa Vercellana, a young woman with humble origins, known as "Bela Rusin", spoke in front of the sovereign of the Kingdom of Sardinia, claiming as a token of love 52 hectares in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Fontanafredda subzone. It was 1858 and, while united Italy took shape in the head of Cavour, Garibaldi and a handful of idealist patriots, King Vittorio Emanuele II fell madly in love with a peasant-looking peasant with long raven hair.
So, 160 years ago, Fontanafredda was born, which today seems to be the navel of the world of viticulture and enology of the Langhe. So, in the name of love, the recently named wine cellar "European Wine Cellar of the Year" by the prestigious Wine Enthusiast magazine has celebrated in the last 3 days this important birthday along with the best customers and partners from every area of Italy and world. In the magical context of a historical re-enactment that has literally brought to life the characters that animated the village in the mid-nineteenth century, first of all Vittorio, Rosina and Cavour, Oscar Farinetti himself guided the guests to discover the many innovations of a company that, in the last ten years, has literally changed its face.
And if it is true that, quoting Andrea Bocelli, guest of the Mirafiore Cultural Foundation of Fontanafredda, "love is everything, the motor of life, its fire ...", it can really be said that Fontanafredda has adopted the words of the great tenor . Fontanafredda, in fact, comes from love which is also the profound meaning of his philosophy.
Love for its origins and its history, celebrated through the creation of a museum inaugurated during the festivities, and a collection of historical reserves of Barolo, from 1982 to 2010, with limited edition labels that recall the highlights of the last 160 years of the cellar.
Love and pride for their wines, great in terms of style and packaging, to reinterpret tradition in a more contemporary key. Thus was born the last reserve of Barolo 2010, dedicated to the one hundred and sixty years and also presented in world premiere.
Love for the 120 hectares that make up the corporate heritage, which gave the impulsio for the realization of the first "Village Narrante" of Italy, where every glimpse, every attraction and every building are described thanks to a vast posterity distributed in the park and associated to a multimedia app.
Love for the unique land of the Langhe, which required a great effort to obtain the official certification linked to organic farming practices. Because the organic is not just a request of many markets that now begin to de-list non-organic wines but also an act of respect towards future generations.
Love for the traditions and the beauty of the landscape, as a result of which Fontanafredda is carrying out the work related to the Hotel Diffuso "Le Case dei Conti Mirafiore" which, in a few years, will see the current 25-room hospitality offer improved with two new structures located in the beautiful farmhouses of the sharecroppers, in the heart of the best vineyards, for a total of 60 rooms and a spa.
160 years of history, marked by values and profound principles, are now written and have made Fontanafredda a unique reality in the Italian wine scene. Now, it is about facing the future with optimism and proactivity, approaching the national and international markets with an innovative attitude, open to change and the challenges of a reality yet to be discovered. As Oscar Farinetti has repeated several times, for 10 years at the helm of the winery, "The Italian wine market is well and is destined to grow: the numbers say it, first of all the average price of bottles, in continuous ascent. But the most must still be done: Italy is currently the world's largest wine producer and this quantity should not be increased that much. What we need to do is focus on the average price, certainly working on the goodness of wine, but also on cleanliness and above all on immaterial values, telling 99.17% of non-Italian citizens of the world our unique terroir, our history and our traditions. "
