Aglianico del Vulture Superiore 'Storico' di Basilico is made from a 2 hectare vineyard-garden where about 7,500 vines over the age of eighty, prefilosseric and ungrafted, are reared as in the centuries-old tradition, a true open-air museum of ancient viticulture. The character of these genetically exceptional vines, because they are ancient and not the result of clonal selections, is so unique that it gives rise to an unmistakable and extraordinary wine. The volcanic soils, the constant ventilation, a considerable altitude, the only manual processing create this cru of very rare excellence. Intense, material and intense ruby color. Hints of small red fruits, rose and cardamom. Extremely persistent, silky tannins and a lively and complex structure, the most refined expression of Vulture

The winery Basilisco, since its start in the early 90s, aimed at the highest quality both in the vineyards and in the wine making thus becoming in a short time a pearl in the Southern Italian scenario. In 2011 Feudi di San Gregorio, the leading winery in the South of Italy and present in the Vulture region for over ten years, decided to start a project reclaiming its ancient tuff stone caves in the “Shesh”, the historic Park of cellars of Barile, and revamping this ancestral context. This move was animated by the firm belief in the uniqueness of this extraordinary viticulture area.
