Pinot Noir 'Blauschiefer' 2019 (750 ml.) - Meyer-Nakel

Pinot Noir 'Blauschiefer' by Meyer-Näkel well represents the terroir of the Ahr, Germany. Vine grown on soils rich in slate and decomposed stones, which give minerality and light smoky nuances to the wine. Low yields and hand-harvested grapes. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with the use of only indigenous yeasts. It matures for 12 months in second, third and fourth passage barriques, in order to avoid excessive release of woody aromas. On the palate it is full and enveloping, with a juicy and harmonious sip supported by a soft and velvety tannin, while on the nose the notes of red fruit, blueberries, blackberries and cherries in alcohol stand out, accompanied by spicy hints. It can be stored for a few years in the cellar.

Meyer-Näkel is based in Dernau, in the Ahr valley, a splendid wine region devoted to Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). Located at the same latitude as Bonn, it is one of the most northern regions for red wines. Werner Näkel, who left his job as a high school teacher to take care of the family business, revolutionized the way Pinot Noir was produced in the region in the early 1980s, bringing the company to the highest quality levels. Its grand crus, Grosses Gewächs, are high-end wines characterized by extreme finesse, precision and perfect dosage of wood. The company is today led by Dörte and Meike Näkel, Werner's daughters, who continue the path traced by their father.
