Malbec 'Primus' 2018 (750 ml.) - Salentein

Malbec 'Primus' by Salentein is made in the Valle de Uco of Mendoza from small plots of vineyards that are just over 20 years old. The vineyards of El Oasis Estate are at 1,150 m above sea level, while those of La Pampa Estate develop at a height of 1,300 m above sea level, close to the Andes mountain range. The harvest takes place in mid-April in the El Oasis vineyards and at the end of May in the La Pampa Estate vineyards. The bunches are harvested by hand and 86% of the fermentation takes place in wooden barrels while the remaining part takes place in French oak barrels. It is complex with intense aromas of red fruit, accompanied by spicy notes (cloves and pepper). When tasted it is soft and powerful, elegant, broad and intense, with velvety tannins and beautiful freshness.

At the foot of the Andes chain, in the wine-growing area of the Uco Valley, stands the Argentine wine company Salentein, born with a precise objective: to produce top-class wines linked to the territory of origin. The modern cellar was designed based on two main concepts: aesthetics and functionality.

The almost 50 hectares of rows cultivated by the Salentein winery are located in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, where the vines benefit from the soils consisting mainly of sand and silt, the high altitudes that reach 1,700 meters above sea level and the dry climate characterized by notable temperature variations between day and night. In this pedoclimatic context the estate applies sustainable viticulture in the cultivation of the Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc vines.

The Salentein winery is the creator of a vast production based on Malbec, an emblematic vine of the Mendoza area, alongside numerous other fine labels from international grapes. The main selections proposed by the bodega are: 'Numina', a line that expresses the spirit of the area where the estate was founded, 'Single Vineyard', from single plots located in the highest area of the Uco Valley, and 'Primus', a range iconic produced exclusively in the best vintages. In general, the wines of Salentein manage to combine the maturity due to the sunny climate of Mendoza, the slender freshness given by the high altitudes of the area and the strong aromatic fragrance that derives from the important temperature variations.
