Domaine Trémeaux is located in the heart of Burgundy, a region of characteristic and among the finest wines in France. The beautiful village of Mercurey has been synonymous with passion for over a century and is part of French wine history having now reached the fourth generation of winemakers. Gabriel Trémeaux founded the winery at the beginning of the 20th century. With the outbreak of the First World War, the leadership of the winery passed to his wife Marta. Later his son George gave it a modern twist and concentrated only on the production of AOC Mercurey wines. Today his son Gilles is at the head of the cellar, who introduced the use of oak barrels for aging wine.
Between Beaune and Cluny, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey is one of the most important wine appellations in Burgundy, both due to its size and the reputation of its wines. The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) "Mercurey" was founded in 1923. The Domaine Trémeaux vineyards occupy approximately 10 hectares of land exclusively from the Mercurey appellation, are located on clayey limestone soils and enjoy an ideal climate with an exposure southeast.
The wines produced are still the original ones from a century ago: "Les Croichots" and "Les Naugues" for the Mercurey Premier Cru; "Les doués", "Le Closeau", "Les Vignes Blanches" for Mercurey Village. The quality of these wines is mainly ensured by careful and respectful work in the vineyard, so that it can give the best grapes of this exceptional terroir.
