Vanotu is the most prestigious among our vineyards, the one that gifted us with the first bottles in 1960. It is a tract of land located at between 300 and 350 meters in elevation, completely exposed to the south and located in the natural end of one of the most beautiful hills in the Barbaresco zone. Geographically it is located on the border of the three towns of the Barbaresco production zone.
The highest portion is in the township of Barbaresco, in the sub-zone called Tre Stelle and it was the first to be replanted by Luigi Pelissero in 1964. It included an old farm house currently being restructured to create a small accommodation facility. Below this portion, downhill from the provincial road, there is the portion of the vineyard belonging to the township of Treiso, in the sub-zone denominated Marcarini. Following the vineyard towards the east, one enters at its end the portion of the township of Neive, the smallest of the three, in the sub-zone denominated Basarin. It is the natural intersection of three towns, three throbbing hearts for the entire economy of this splendid area.
The microclimate is windy with few problems of mildew thanks in higher location on the hill, as this guarantees a normal seasonal development even during not very favorable years. The soil, particularly rich limestone, produces wines that are soft, elegant, and persuasive and loaded with character, always very expressive each year through the notes of sage, mint, rose, camomille, thyme and a multitude of aromatic herbs which only a few areas of Langa are able to express.
