Alto Adige DOC Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 'Kastelt' 2022 (750 ml.) Colterenzio

Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 'Kastelt' by Colterenzio is an intense and elegant red wine. It comes from the grapes of the same name used in purity, grown in vineyards located on medium-structured moraine and gravelly soils. Fermentation on the skins in steel with a careful pumping over of the skins and juice for optimal color extraction. The wine ferments for 1/3 in barriques and 2/3 in wooden vats for about 12 months. After careful bottling, another 12 months of maturation in the bottle follow. Characteristic bouquet with concentrated hints of Cassis and berries. Elegant tannins on the palate that give the wine fullness and persistence. Suitable for tasty dishes based on red meat, grilled or roasted, game and lamb and spicy cheeses.

Colterenzio_870x360.jpg

The wines from the hamlet of Colterenzio were favourites of Archduke Sigismund when he resided at Firmiano Castle in the 15th century, though the area was producing fine wines much earlier. Around 15 b.C. a Roman country gentleman named Cornelius settled here and established his "Cornelianum" wine estate and the first wine culture in the area. The Roman name eventually evolved into "Cornaiano", the village Colterenzio calls home. The Colterenzio winegrowers' co-operative was founded by 28 vintners in 1960. Over the years other passionate viticulturalists from diversified micro-zones in the area joined the collective, and today nearly 300 members cultivate approximately 300 hectares of vineyards.
