'Opera Unica' by Donnafugata is a small, prestigious production of only 6,574 bottles. Pure Chardonnay resulting from unusual climatic conditions. In 2018, rainfall made harvesting impossible; the singular conditions of temperature and humidity then favored the appearance of noble rot on the bunches. The grapes were vinified separately to create something special. Aged for 9 months in tanks and over 4 years in bottles. Surprising organoleptic profile: extraordinarily broad bouquet of ripe yellow pulp fruit, candied citrus fruits, saffron, ginger, chestnut honey and beeswax; marked acidity and savory finish. This wine goes well with sushi, semi-mature cheeses, mushroom dishes and white meats.

Donnafugata was founded in Sicily by an enterprising family with 160 years’ experience in premium wines. Giacomo Rallo and wife Gabriella, daughter José and son Antonio are engaged in an entrepreneurial project with a focus on attention to detail and synchronizing people and nature to make wines that correspond increasingly more to the potential of this area.
The Donnafugata adventure began in the Rallo family’s historic cellars in Marsala in 1983 and at its Contessa Entellina vineyards in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria, commencing its production of naturally sweet wines.

Color: yellow with golden and copper reflections
Bouquet: extraordinarily broad which tastes of ripe yellow pulp fruit, candied citrus fruits, saffron, ginger, chestnut honey and beeswax
